Mr Pradeep Barot

Instrumentalist Sarod Player

On 2nd March, 2020, the renowned sarod player Mr Pradeep Barot was felicitated for his humility, pure love, and devotion towards music.

Pradeep Kumar Barot is a distinguished Indian classical musician and an eminent disciple of the legendary Padma Bhushan Smt. Annapurna Devi — daughter of Padma Vibhushan Ustad Allauddin Khan Sahib, the revered founder of the Maihar Gharana.

Born into a lineage steeped in musical heritage, Pradeep carries forward the profound legacy of his forebears. His grandfather, Pandit Rodji Barot, was a celebrated Sarangi virtuoso and court musician of the Ratlam State. His father, Shri Mohanlal, is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, while his uncle, Shri Ratanlal, is a respected Tabla maestro. Pradeep received his foundational training from his father and from Shri Vasant Rai, a devoted disciple of Baba Allauddin Khan, before receiving the blessing of becoming a disciple of Smt. Annapurna Devi herself.

Rooted deeply in tradition yet alive with imagination, Pradeep’s music reflects both discipline and divine creativity. The resonant and meditative sound of his sarod swiftly draws listeners into a realm beyond the ordinary — an intimate space of serenity, devotion, and spiritual elevation.

Pradeep Barot has been featured in performances across India and beyond, sharing the pure essence of the Maihar Gharana with global audiences. His life’s mission is to nurture and transmit this revered tradition with sincerity, humility, and love.

An A-grade artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan, he is also honored with an Extra Special Grade by the Cine Music Association. His artistry extends into collaborations with the Films Division (Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, India), as well as contributions to feature films, music albums, and commercial scores. Through his music, Pradeep continues to offer not just performance, but a profound spiritual experience — a reminder that sound can be a path to the divine.
