Over the years, Maharshi Adhyatma Vishwavidyalay (MAV) has been engaged in the study of how music may influence individuals at a subtle, spiritual level. Observations from this ongoing research suggest that music rooted in spiritual intent has the potential to enhance the aura, while music created without such a basis may influence it differently.
An opportunity to explore this theme further arose when a guitarist who also practises Spirituality visited the MAV Ashram. This allowed for a comparative observation of the subtle effects of two distinct musical expressions, an example of popular music and a piece of Indian devotional music, both performed on the same instrument. The intent was not to evaluate musical merit, but to better understand how musical orientation and inner intention may shape spiritual and subtle-energy outcomes.
The guitarist first performed a well-known pop song before an audience of seekers. Using the Universal Aura Scanner (UAS), aura readings were recorded both before and after the performance.
He then performed Indian devotional songs for a similar audience, and their aura readings were taken using the same procedure, allowing for a direct and controlled comparison.
The data revealed clear and compelling trends:
Pop Song Performance
Devotional Song Performance
Interestingly, the guitar itself displayed similar energetic shifts:
These results highlight that both the listener and the instrument are spiritually influenced by the type of music performed.
This study demonstrates that the spiritual foundation of a song significantly shapes its impact on the aura. Devotional music aligns with the deeper purpose of music as an artform : to help the listener move inward, transcend the 5 senses, mind and intellect and experience God. In contrast, the pop song reinforced identification with the five senses, mind, and intellect, resulting in increased negativity.
The findings emphasise the transformative potential of music when used with spiritual awareness and the importance of choosing music that supports one’s spiritual well-being.
